Principal’s Address

As Principal it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our new website. Coláiste Muire is a Catholic Voluntary Secondary School under the trusteeship of the Coláiste Thuar Mhic Éadaigh Teoranta and is a non-fee-paying, grant-aided, co-educational school. Our school encourages the use of Gaeilge amongst our students and offers our students the opportunity to study subjects through the medium of Irish.

Our school is run by a Board of Management which is comprised of Trustee nominees, Parent nominees and Teacher nominees. Our school is supported in its work by the Parents’ Council and Students’ Council.

We cater for all students from a wide catchment area with school bus transport bringing students from all the local primary schools and from Ballintubber, Ballyheane, Knockrooskey, Killawalla, Newport, Westport, Ballinrobe and Castlebar. Coláiste Muire also provides a learning support programme for students with special educational needs.

The school is operated on the basis of the fundamental Christian Principle, “treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated”. The school authorities and staff work hard to ensure a safe school environment for our school community.

In addition, we work to encourage the holistic development of our students in an atmosphere that enhances both academic and personal growth. We prepare students for state examinations and provide guidance to the students in a caring atmosphere that seeks to ensure that each student reaches his/her full potential. We also encourage student participation in the Arts and in Sport.

Once more a sincere welcome to all visitors to this website and we hope that you can find the information relevant to you as you work your way through it. Please feel free to contact me if you reqiure further information.
